Description from the Producer
VQA Niagara Peninsula
Introduce yourself to the unique taste of our deep Merlot wine, crafted from 100% Merlot grapes grown in the warm microclimate of the Niagara Peninsula. This wine is aged in neutral French Oak barrels for 8 months before bottling, giving it a unique taste and texture. With a low residual sugar of 3.0 g/L, it's a perfect choice for those who love dry red wines.
Tasting Notes: This Merlot has a beautiful deep colour with fresh plum, sweet cherry, and dark chocolate on the nose. On the palate, it has Cranberry sauce Christmas dinner spices and soft rich tannins. The wine is well balanced with a moderate acidity and a subtle sweetness that makes it perfect for sipping on a warm summer day or any occasion.
Food Pairing Suggestions:
- Roasted or braised meats, especially lamb, pork, and beef
- Mushroom-based dishes
- Rich, hearty stews and casseroles
- Strong cheeses, such as blue cheese and aged cheddar
- Dark chocolate desserts
Winemaker's Note: Merlot can be tricky to grow in Ontario due to its tender buds' lack of cold tolerance. Fortunately for us, our primary Niagara grower has a great site with a warm microclimate. The fruit consistently ripens with beautiful fruit flavour and tobacco nuance. This wine aged in neutral French Oak barrels for 8 months before bottling. It really is a lovely wine.
At Traynor Family Vineyard, we are committed to crafting wines that are unique and delicious. This Merlot is the result of our experimentation, and we believe it is the perfect representation of our winemaking style.
