Wine Club Feature: Diamond Estates Winery
Diamond Estates Winery is an umbrella company for many different brands including Lakeview Cellars & EastDell Estates. Contracts with 25 different growers allows them to produce lines of wine where each brand has a unique focus. Located on the highly regarded Niagara escarpment, the sites benefit from the lake's influence. Lakeview Cellars was originally founded by Eddy Gurinska and his wife Lorraine in 1991 and then purchased by Diamond Estates Winery in 2005.
Winemakers Scott McGregor and Tom Green craft wine in one of the largest wineries in Ontario. Sustainability is part of Diamond Estates' philosophy. Steps such as using solar panels and insulated tanks have been taken to save energy, and water usage is also carefully controlled.

Made from a blend of 55% Pinot Noir and 45% Chardonnay, this sparkling wine is made in the traditional method. The wine has a great structure with notes of red apple, red currant and brioche. I like the combination of freshness and richness. My favourite way to enjoy this wine? With Miss Vickie’s chips on a Monday night. The best possible way to start the week. Who needs a special day to open bubbles?
As the days get warmer impromptu gatherings are likely to increase. You need to stock up your fridge with simple quaffable whites for the aperitif and this is a good choice. Thirst quenching with notes of green apple, lime and lemon zest and white grapefruit. If your guests stay for dinner serve them scallop ceviche. A great match.
Simple but well made Syrah with bright notes of black cherries, red plum and cassis. Game meat is the word on the street. Think Venison, bison or wild boar. A crowd pleaser.
Who knew Ontario could make such delicious Malbec? Medium to full body with appealing aromas of dark cherries, blackberries, red plum with a touch of vanilla and smoke. You just found your wine for the BBQ. Grilled sausages or hamburgers, anyone?
Full body with high tannins and bright acidity. This wine needs food to fully shine. It is red meat's best friend. Steak or lamb are both great choices.
