Founders, Len and Marisa Crispino, were living as expats in Italy when they discovered Amarone wines. A rich and expressive wine style from the Veneto region of northeastern Italy, the wine is made using the appassimento process where grapes are dried for months before pressing. The duo were so inspired by the wines that they brought their learnings back with them to Ontario and established The Foreign Affair Winery. Since their first vintage in 2004, the Crispinos have become trailblazers of appassimento winemaking in Canada. They produce a high-quality selection of rich reds and elegant whites with each bottle being touched by the appassimento process in some way.

Take a peek at a few of the extraordinary wines that are included in our December Wine Club boxes.

2021 Sauvignon Blanc

2021 Sauvignon Blanc

This vibrant and beautifully-structured white offers an elegant mix of lemon, orange, green plum, and herbaceous notes. It pairs well with rosemary and sun-dried tomato focaccia or pan-fried garlic calamari.

2022 Sussreserve Riesling

2022 Sussreserve Riesling

This expressive riesling has enticing notes of honeyed grapefruit, white peach, green apple, and lemon-lime on the palate with a bright and lingering finish. A wonderful partner with smoked salmon or potato gratin and spicy Thai beef salad.

2021 Merlot

2021 Merlot

This medium-bodied merlot has supple tannins with well-integrated oak. A plum and oak spice bouquet leads into red cherry, blackberry, thyme, and black pepper on the palate. Rated 90 points, try it with beef wellington or gnocchi tossed with asparagus, edamame, and parmesan.

2020 Dream

2020 Dream

A lively Bordeaux-style blend of merlot, cabernet sauvignon, and cabernet franc. Aromas of violets, cassis, and pepper spice are followed by flavours of rhubarb, plum, black tea, and dark chocolate. Rated 91 points by Tony Aspler. A food-friendly wine, enjoy it with lamb chops with rosemary gravy or fried halloumi cheese with honey.
