Expert winemaker Shiraz Mottiar personifies Malivoire's founding philosophy: that healthy soil and vines, and minimal human manipulation of the fruit results in excellent wine. By following these principles, Mottiar and the winemaking team at Malivoire has created an excellent and unique portfolio of wines that includes chardonnay, pinot noir, gamay, and cabernet franc, among many others.
Those who attended this year’s National Women’s Show in Toronto were lucky enough to try some of the wines available in the December Wine Club package. But in case you couldn’t make it, we also had the pleasure of tasting Malivoire's wines. Keep reading for some of our favourites from this month's packages.
A beautiful blend of chardonnay and pinot noir, this sparkling was made in the traditional method, and aged on the lees for forty months. Light and crisp, with flavours of lemon, green apple, and a floral note, this sparkler is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser and perfect for the holidays! Not to mention, it earned an impressive 92 point rating and a Gold medal at the 2019 National Wine Awards of Canada. This wine is a must-try!
2016 Mottiar Chardonnay
Exclusive to our December Wine Club package, this lovely white is minerally and citrusy with forest floor on the nose, followed by a dash of spiced oak. Made with grapes from Malivoire winemaker Shiraz Mottiar’s personal vineyard, this medium-bodied chardonnay is dry with a combination of apple and lemon flavours topped with tangerine on the palate. Pair with crab cakes with spicy remoulade, pan-fried trout with tomato basil, and creamy vegetable soup.
Another holiday party staple! Light ruby in colour, this wine has aromas of red plum, tobacco leaf, rhubarb, and oak on the nose. On the palate, flavours of cherry, red plum, and an engaging floral finish. This light to medium-bodied red is perfect for sipping by itself but also pairs well with an array of dishes such as Alfredo linguini with salmon, sweet potato casserole, and turkey meatballs with cranberry sauce.
A fresh and lively cabernet franc that delivers a beautiful bouquet of cedar and vanilla oak. This deep ruby red is full of red currant and sour cherry flavours, and well-balanced between ripe fruit and acidity. Enjoy now with a classic lasagna, red lentil soup, and roasted duck breast with asparagus.
