The story behind Back 10 Cellars

Back 10 is a genuine start-from-scratch story. Christina and Andrew Brooks bought a derelict farm between Beamsville and Vineland in 2002, with little money and less farming experience, and spent about a decade getting to their first bottle.

Christina later wrote a memoir about the whole ordeal, fire, debt, doubt and all. One of their wines is fittingly called Start From Scratch.

Small-batch, low-yield Niagara

The vineyard is small, about ten acres of low-yielding vines in the red soils of the Lincoln Lakeshore. The wines are made in tiny batches, with veteran winemaker David Johnson guiding the cellar.

Riesling is the calling card, led by a dry one called The Big Reach, alongside Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay. Everything is done on a small, personal scale.
