Situé au cœur d'Oliver, en Colombie-Britannique, une communauté reconnue comme la capitale canadienne du vin, le domaine viticole de 8 hectares est situé sur le Black Sage Bench, offrant une vue imprenable sur le paysage et une vue imprenable sur la communauté.

Détenu et exploité par John Ferreira, né au Portugal, il a immigré au Canada avec sa famille très jeune. En 1979, ils ont acquis le domaine pour en faire un verger où ils cultivaient des cerises, des pêches et des pommes. D'origine portugaise, leur passion pour le vin les a conduits à transformer le verger en vignoble après 20 ans de production et de conditionnement de fruits. La transformation du fruit en vin s'est étalée sur trois ans : les premiers cépages Merlot et Chardonnay ont été plantés en 1999, suivis d'autres cépages. Aujourd'hui, notre vignoble est en pleine production et propose des cépages tels que Merlot, Chardonnay, Syrah, Viognier, Malbec et, plus récemment, Zinfandel et Petit Verdot.

The story behind Quinta Ferreira

Quinta Ferreira is a Portuguese-Canadian family estate on the Black Sage Bench near Oliver. John and Maria Ferreira came to Canada from Portugal and bought the land in 1979, first as a fruit orchard of cherries and peaches.

After about twenty years growing tree fruit, they replanted to grapes in 1999. The name says it plainly: quinta is Portuguese for a family wine estate.

Old-world roots, desert bench fruit

The family brought a Portuguese winemaking tradition to one of the warmest, sandiest sites in the country. That heat suits big Bordeaux grapes, and the estate leans into Merlot, Syrah, and blends.

The flagship is Obra Prima, a Bordeaux-style blend that took Double Gold at the All Canadian Wine Championships in 2013. It stays a small, hands-on family operation.
