Judged Against the World, Not Just Canada
Decanter is the outlier on this site. The other competitions we track are Canadian, judged by Canadian panels against Canadian fruit. Decanter is the world's largest wine competition, judged in London against roughly eighteen thousand entries from everywhere.
That changes what a medal means. A Canadian wine that places at Decanter was scored blind next to Bordeaux, Barossa and Burgundy by judges with no particular interest in Canada. It is the closest thing to an outside opinion on how the country's wine measures up.
What Places, and Where to Go Next
The page runs red-heavy, with a strong showing from sparkling and a handful of icewines — which is roughly what you would predict, since those are the two styles Canada is judged best at internationally.
For the Canadian-judged view of the same question, the National Wine Awards of Canada page is the bigger list, and the awards page sets out every competition we track. Otherwise browse by colour: red, white or sparkling.
